Happy Halloween!!

Tonight is mischief night and I’m sitting here in my pink pjs writing this blog. Ah well. Anyway, I never heard of mischief night until I came out to the east coast, actually my uncle told me about it. No mischief here unless you count all the clothes in the living room, the lights and TV on everywhere and a rose sitting out. Apparently my annoying food stealing roommate is out causing mischief. This is not about my terrible living situation, this is about Halloween!!!

I’ve always loved dressing up until recently. Maybe because I hit that age where it’s not about dressing up but it’s about how slutty/”sexy” you can look… and I just don’t do “slutty.” I’m more of a “cute, trying to be sexy but I giggle too much.” Not that you need to know this.Anywho, tomorrow I will be going to New York City to watch the Halloween Parade!!! I’m sooo excited. 1, because it won’t be too cold, and 2, it’s going to be awesome. Since I figured that I have no idea where I’ll be next year, why not take advantage of how freakin close I am to NYC. This means going dancing on a Thursday, uh… okay, that’s all I’ve done so far. But now I can add going to the New York Halloween Parade to my list! I’m pumped!!! I’m going to be dressed as a pilot actually… well, sort of. Let’s say I’m going to be a “cute” pilot (see comment above about being slutty).

Here is a link about the Halloween Parade if you’ve never heard about it (I’m only saying this because I’ve never heard about it until I came here to Montclair)

New York’s Village Halloween Parade

And a little something to get you into the mood… by the way, saw the movie in 3-D… awesome. Go see it.

“The Running of the Brides” ~ What I did this weekend

So I went down to Philly this weekend to support my friend Magy who is getting married in May and participated in “The Running of the Brides.” Unfortunately there was no real drama (punching, kicking, crying) but it was definitely something to remember. I got there around 6:45 AM but Magy, her mom, and her friend Allison were already in line. Then I got the “hat.” It is a sparkly blue glitter hat that all four of us wore and got us some TV time. Yes, I was on TV… then again, Magy was the one being interviewed but I was there. So here are some links to articles that were published about this event that I went to and on at least 2 of the videos you can spot me (and the rest of the blue hats) “running” into the store. Also on the 6ABC site you can see when they interviewed Magy while she was trying on dresses (she’s the red head talking about the ratio of girls to dresses). It was fun and I would write more, but ha, I am in school and it’s midterm week.

Coverage:

6ABC ~ watch the video where Amy Buckman reports and there you will see Magy and our blue hats are floating around

CBS3 ~ the little video on the left you will see the blue hats and near the end you’ll see me (well, the back of me) (I’m wearing a brown jacket) wandering around.

NBC11 ~ I’m in the “running” part of the video. If you go to the slideshow you can see a picture of part of Magy, Magy’s mom and me behind her on Slide 4.

Philadelphia Inquirer ~ Magy (or me) isn’t in any of the pictures but she was interviewed by the woman who wrote this.

Oh! And she DID find a dress. It’s beautiful… and I’m the one who grabbed it in the beginning. :-)

Uh-oh

Google seen inheriting YouTube’s legal challenges (Yahoo! News) ~ Please don’t take my videos away!!! I just discovered YouTube!!! Not fair! Sigh… I still have time…

I’m Back at School

Yippee! I’m back to the super speed of school internet! This is very exciting stuff since all summer I’ve been only able to check my e-mail to read the highlights and that took an hour (sucky dial-up). But here I am, back finally, and boy am I sleepy…

So I will now leave you with an awesome video that I first saw on VH1 (I think) and then I clicked it through my cousin’s IM away message. Check it out.

Treadmill Dance. OK-Go’s “Here It Goes Again”

Now my question is… how long did it take to practice the dance to make it look that good? (Or is it just good editing?)

I know it's been awhile, sorry about that – busy with school, life, avoiding things, stuff like that, you understand. Since I woke up at 6 A.M. today for some unknown reason, I thought I'd continue my links posts.

Secret of Mona Lisa's Smile Revealed? ~ I was thinking about this for a bit. You need patience and time to be able to paint like this, and I think this is why there are no true great painters today. We have way too many distractions, too many forms of entertainment, and just overall too lazy to paint like this. We want results now, not millions of little invisible dots later. Does this idea work with other art forms? Why aren't their any Michelangelo marble sculptures being done now? Or is it that we can claim that it's been done, so why go back? I bet if there was an artist who could paint like this and does paint like this now, they would be looked over in the New York art world for someone who paints something that's more controversial. For the other aspects of art, I do have to admit that computer animation has been improving to look more and more life like, that there is an art form that is improving. I was amazed between the difference between Toy Story and Bug's Life and even after that Toy Story 2…. and that was years ago where I stared at the movie screen in awe, just amazed at the huge difference. Yes, I notice these things. :-P

Sesame Street creators spark controversy with new line of videos for infants ~ Do we want our children to become addicted to TV before the age of two? I mean, really? I'm torn between that it might help develop their brain, and being born into a TV watching generation (even though throughout high school I didn't have a TV in the house, but I still managed to know just enough about what was going on in Pop culture to stay afloat) I can't help but this this is naturally something that you would want to do.

Hilton Considered for Mother Theresa Role ~ Oh please, say it isn't so…

"Simpsons" Teases Moviegoers ~ Hmmm… this brings up the question how does a successful TV show turn into a successful movie… I know it's possible and all, but just like when Sex and the City was thinking about a movie, I'm a little skeptical… but then again, the voice of Albert Brooks with "guest star" in the movie… maybe it will be Jacques from one of my favorite Simpsons episodes… I highly doubt that thought… especially since that was from Season 1.

The Simpsons.com ~ just thought I'd put it up since this is the first time that I went to the site… and happened to just talk about it… amusing…

Blockbuster Accused of Patent Infringement ~ Oh I hope they don't get rid of Blockbuster.com… which is what I use to rent my TV shows on DVD instead of Netflix. They give me two free games in store a month! And since they raised the price of renting games to $8 or something like that, heck, I need those free games!!!

The Official John Corbett Band Website ~ I'm not a fan of country music as you know, but when I saw this actually on TV yesterday I had to go check it out because I'm an Adian fan. "Let me strip your floors." And am I the only one remembering the oboe playing musician that he played in the movie Serendipity?

6:30 A.M. Rambling

Once again – ignore this big brother

So I decided to come back to my dorm because I was falling asleep at the computer at school. As I was walking to my car the sun was rising. I love sunrise. New York fell in the backdrop to my right with a blazing orange sun peaking of the buildings and to my left, the almost full moon in the lavendar sky. I really love sunrises, but I think I like sleep more so they are more rare and special to me. I realized while walking to my car in the cold that I’m lucky. I’m lucky to be where I am right now, in more ways then one. I’m lucky to be at this school where I can grow in my art, I’m lucky to be near one of the greatest cities ever, and I’m lucky that I’m at a point in my life that I can seriously look forward to the future. I just wish that I didn’t keep screwing things up. Okay, I’m falling asleep again at the computer. Time for a nap until I have to wake up and hang my show…

Once again, I’m sorry that I hurt you again

Why am I awake at 8 in the morning? I wish I knew. I am beginning to miss sleep, but it’s all worth it. Instead of going to bed and try to sleep some more I think I’ll actually get up, eat a little, shower and get my butt to work. It’s time to make art!! (Hopefully I won’t get too distracted and can’t stop giggling all day again which might happen :-) )

Today’s links. Hope you all have as good a day as I will have.

Have the Curators of This Year’s Whitney Biennial Finally Figured Out How to Make the Show Matter? ~ I am soooo pumped in seeing this show. This will be an exciting month in art (heck – I’m going to have my own show too!) and in many other things in my life.

Pride, prejudice and happiness: readers choose favourite endings ~ Since I never seem to be able to get my butt to read more I will make this connection with movies, in particular, romantic comedies. If it’s going to end bad, I really don’t like it. I want the romance – the knowledge and hope of a happy ending between the two main characters. It gives me hope about my own life. One of my absolute favorite movies, which was actually a TV mini-series, is A&E’s Pride and Prejudice. (Haven’t seen the new one yet, but I plan on too) I can just watch the ending over and over when Elizabeth finally realized that she wanted to be with Mr. Darcy and Mr. Darcy still declaring his love and him just remembering that look that they shared (or it could be I have the hots for Colin Firth… I dunno). Romance is important, the hope of something better to come, the feeling of being swept off your feet, the surprises, the thoughtfulness that is given without being asked for it, I forgot all of this and hope that’s not going to be the case forever. :-)

Dinner and a movie… ~ Ew. Very fitting title for the article though.

‘West Wing’ Alums to Return for Show’s End ~ West Wing is one of those shows that I surprising really enjoy… mainly because I absolutely nothing about politics and even though I know it’s not real, I feel like it gives me a glimpse, no matter how unrealistic it is, into something I really have no clue about and am curious about. I’ve rented and seen whatever is on DVD now, I think it was season 4, where Zoe was just kidnapped and it begins after that. I don’t remember the number of the season, but that season is where is started going downhill – fast. The first season was so incredibly good and well written that I don’t know what went wrong. Oh well.

My Space and others

Since this is the beginning of having even more time on my hands then before I can write about all those things that I wanted to write about. Let me start with MySpace.com and all those other connecting with other people sites. I’ve always been one of those people who really enjoy hearing from people I haven’t heard from in a long time. Usually my life is so boring that I don’t want to blab about my own life, but I love hearing about other people’s lives and thoughts, especially those of people I know and care about… or once cared about and stopped talking for awhile and then found me somewhere in cyberspace. For instance, I was only on Friendster.com for awhile, I connected with people that I haven’t talked to in forever, but never really talked to them. They added me as their friend and that’s about it, which is totally cool with me.  Then I was introduced to myspace, and later facebook.  Maybe these are set up to prove how many people you know… and looking at any of my profiles on these sites proves I don’t know many – OR they don’t remember me, especially those people from high school.  I’m like a forgotten girl who dated this guy for awhile and moved away soon after high school.  I’m always afraid that people don’t remember me.  My brother, the fantastic guy that he is, can go anywhere and people recognize him.  Heck, when he came to UPenn for my graduation he bumped into someone he knew and the whole two years I was there I never ran into people I knew (and I have two cousins that go there also! I never saw them!).  Sad.  Me – I’m just that forgettable except to those who still mean a whole lot to me.  Then again, sometimes even those people I’m afraid they forgot about me.  I’m sorry, this post wasn’t supposed to be a pity post.  So moving on.

Myspace is wonderful.  I’m so glad my friend Saraivy added me.  I think it made me realize that I’m not as friendless as I thought I was.  It’s a nice feeling.   But there’s always that little hint of jealousy.  I mean, I look at some of my friends from high school’s site and they have people that we went to high school together that I didn’t even know that they really talked to and those people never contacted me.  Am I forgotten?  (okay, that’s the last pity thing I’m going to say – I promise)  AIM is also one of those things that I really like.  I was always jealous of those people who went to a real college and could leave their computers on all day and night and leave messages saying where they are, what they’re doing.  Now that I live in a dorm, I do have to admit I do that.  I know, it’s a stupid thing to be jealous of, but I think it might have been part of the reason why it was hard for me to stay in touch with people I was friends with in high school.

I guess my point is I’m always glad when people remember me.  If you remember me and are on one of these sites and have people in your friends that you talked to less whenever we knew each other then you and I did, add me.  (I don’t think that made sense, I’m saying, if you have friends on your site that you really weren’t ever friends with and you and I were friends at some point in our lives, you should add me… because I deserve it! Ha. You really don’t have to if you don’t want to) Then again, those people who actually read this I know are my friends, or related to me… one or the other.  And I know that you care.  So thanks about that.  Sorry – back in pity mode, I’m out of it now.

So. What brought this all about besides me lovin myspace.  I was cleaning out my e-mail because I have 1630 messages and I sometimes like to clean out my e-mail I was deleting my messages that announced something about myspace.  Like – so and so wants to add you to their myspace friends or something.  (I’m a pack rat – I like to keep things for a long time, even e-mails) So I was deleting those and came across one of these journals I get that lists links for articles about art and such (where I get a lot of my links – obviously) and one was about an article about myspace.  Even though it’s from December, it’s pretty interesting – all about the phenomenon of myspace.
