The B.L.A.M. Tour

Okay, it’s 2:24 A.M. and I’m in the middle of writing my midterm that is due tomorrow… and what am I doing? Writing about how I went to see Barenaked Ladies this past Thursday. I am also currently listening to solo piano radio on iTunes because 1. I just discovered that I have iTunes on my computer and 2. My roommates are so f-ing loud that I really need earplugs, but I don’t have any so listening to slow piano music will just have to do while I write this midterm paper.

So on my ticket is said “Barenaked Ladies” blablabla “with special guest” (then the next line in large letters “The B.L.A.M. Tour.” My friend asked me when I said that I was going to this concert was there going to be anyone opening for them, I said, hm, I guess The B.L.A.M. tour whoever they are. Sometimes my stupidity amazes me. Let me continue. So I was sitting there in these fantastic seats (because, yes, I am in the fan club and bought them early the day they said that I could buy them on-line before everyone else because I am in the fan club) listening to this band that I can’t even remember the name of (the name of the band was the lead singer’s name) and they were bad and I was wondering when was the B.L.A.M. tour coming on? I mean, Barenaked Ladies isn’t that huge that they would have 2 opening acts. Then it hit me. I am such an idiot sometimes… B.L.A.M. B-Barenaked L-Ladies A-Are M-Me (the name of their new album) Tour. It was the name of their tour. I’m a dumbass. Well, ok, I’m not a total dumbass but let me just say I’ve been awful sick for the past two weeks… that should grant me at least one stupid oblivious thought.

Anywho, the concert rocked. I had a great time even though I was sick. I could see, I could sit because everyone in front of me was sitting, and it was great. This weekend as a whole is another story. Getting “locked” out of my apartment because my roommatesneglected to tell me that they changed the lock, missing my friend’s opening because of this, having to go back down to Philly for something and come back 2 hours later to work on a project and this midterm and on and on and on. Sigh. Moving on.

Since I didn’t give an official video of the week last week because it was Halloween (had to post a Halloween video of course) and then I wasn’t here for the rest of the week because I went to the concert I give you one of the last songs that they played and one of my favorites. Also a picture that I took from my seat. I heart BNL.

I know it's been awhile, sorry about that – busy with school, life, avoiding things, stuff like that, you understand. Since I woke up at 6 A.M. today for some unknown reason, I thought I'd continue my links posts.

Secret of Mona Lisa's Smile Revealed? ~ I was thinking about this for a bit. You need patience and time to be able to paint like this, and I think this is why there are no true great painters today. We have way too many distractions, too many forms of entertainment, and just overall too lazy to paint like this. We want results now, not millions of little invisible dots later. Does this idea work with other art forms? Why aren't their any Michelangelo marble sculptures being done now? Or is it that we can claim that it's been done, so why go back? I bet if there was an artist who could paint like this and does paint like this now, they would be looked over in the New York art world for someone who paints something that's more controversial. For the other aspects of art, I do have to admit that computer animation has been improving to look more and more life like, that there is an art form that is improving. I was amazed between the difference between Toy Story and Bug's Life and even after that Toy Story 2…. and that was years ago where I stared at the movie screen in awe, just amazed at the huge difference. Yes, I notice these things. :-P

Portrait of a Cultural Battle ~ Who owns a painting? The original country or the country that steals it during a war?

TV, Movie, Music Related

Sesame Street creators spark controversy with new line of videos for infants ~ Do we want our children to become addicted to TV before the age of two? I mean, really? I'm torn between that it might help develop their brain, and being born into a TV watching generation (even though throughout high school I didn't have a TV in the house, but I still managed to know just enough about what was going on in Pop culture to stay afloat) I can't help but this this is naturally something that you would want to do.

Hilton Considered for Mother Theresa Role ~ Oh please, say it isn't so…

"Simpsons" Teases Moviegoers ~ Hmmm… this brings up the question how does a successful TV show turn into a successful movie… I know it's possible and all, but just like when Sex and the City was thinking about a movie, I'm a little skeptical… but then again, the voice of Albert Brooks with "guest star" in the movie… maybe it will be Jacques from one of my favorite Simpsons episodes… I highly doubt that thought… especially since that was from Season 1.

The Simpsons.com ~ just thought I'd put it up since this is the first time that I went to the site… and happened to just talk about it… amusing…

Blockbuster Accused of Patent Infringement ~ Oh I hope they don't get rid of Blockbuster.com… which is what I use to rent my TV shows on DVD instead of Netflix. They give me two free games in store a month! And since they raised the price of renting games to $8 or something like that, heck, I need those free games!!!

The Official John Corbett Band Website ~ I'm not a fan of country music as you know, but when I saw this actually on TV yesterday I had to go check it out because I'm an Adian fan. "Let me strip your floors." And am I the only one remembering the oboe playing musician that he played in the movie Serendipity?

The Time Is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ~ I missed it!!! I was actually asleep by 12:30 last night for once. Oh well.

Paperweight Severs Calif. Teacher's Hand ~ you better watch out what kind of things you have on your desks there you teachers and future teachers…

And lastly…

Spider-hunting nudist ends with ring of fire ~ I can't help but laugh… sorry…

A few things today and all random.

First something to add to my brother’s latest post ~

2 Illini editors are suspended ~ I can’t believe this. Well, I mean, I can, but I also can’t. Personally, I would want to see this cartoon. I would want to see what exactly is so offensive that people are rioting and dying over this cartoon, especially being a naive American who doesn’t really know much about other countries. This would put some understanding in my little brain to see why people are acting so strongly. People create art to stimulate, stir up emotions, agitate, rile up, and other things to have people have some sort of reaction, so in a year, will this cartoon have the reaction of it calm down a bit and be used as an example of what a simple drawing can do to people? I don’t know. Then again, I’m only an artist that isn’t very political, religious, activist, or hm, anything. When it comes to issues like this one, once I hear both sides, I can understand both sides (usually) and can’t usually put my foot down and totally agree on either opinion or belief. I want to know all the opinions and facts before I say or agree or disagree with anything… or at least I try to.

Three Die in cartoon riots ~ just to add to the above.

A little bit lighter links

McDonald’s news fries parents of allergic kids ~ McDonald’s fries contain wheat?! They contain something recognizable and “healthy”? No way. They are just too good. Ah, but wait… don’t get your hopes up, it’s the cooking oil.

Arrested for asking for quiet in cinema ~ Personal space is a very important thing. Then again, watching a movie at the movie theater and the people around you being quiet is also a very important thing. Unless it’s like the pack house of watching the last Star Wars movie on the first day and you could just feel the buzz of excitement from everyone. Then again, I might have been the only one who laughed at the scene where the Emperor was fighting Yoda and he said “Hello my little green friend.” I have no idea why I found that so funny… maybe in reference to how Lucas didn’t want Yoda to be like Kermit? Or was it because it was such a cheesy line (well, yes, most of the lines in that movie were cheesy, but I still loved it)? Okay, sorry, I went off the subject

Burglar Leaves Birthday Greeting at Store ~ Oh what a stupidhead.

And lastly, for my brother

The Beatles Now ~ a commentary about one of the greatest bands ever… or the greatest band?

As I avoiding doing actual work, here are some things that I found entertaining.

Computer Analysis Suggests Paintings are Not Pollacks ~ I do have to admit that I think Pollack did some great things for the art world, but fake Pollacks? His paintings were not random even though they appear to be. He was very precise with where each “drip” goes so those who think that their kid could do it are wrong. But still, I guess if a person was going to copy a work of art and pawn it off as someone else’s, then I guess Pollack could be an easy one.

Celebration for an 80-year-old ballerina ~ If only all of us could still be dancing at 80.

Somewhat Art Related

A Makeover of a Romance ~ Barbie has a new boyfriend. (There’s a picture of him too!) I loved my Barbie growing up. I have a friend who still collects them. I actually have a Paul Frank one in my living room. But I have to say that there is a quote in this article from Isaac Larian, CE of Bratz (the competition) that makes me laugh “‘It is time for Barbie to retire,’ he said. ‘I mean, even Michael Jordan retired.’”

A couple of missed events from yesterday… and several days ago

The Grammys ~ Okay, I only watched up until Paul McCartney started playing but it was pretty good up to that point. But then again, was it just me or were those “duets” just really one band singing alone and then transitioned into another band’s song? Did I miss something?

Britney in the hot seat over photos ~ I have to agree with the first sentence of this article “What was she thinking?” I mean – SERIOUSLY?!

The Cute Factor ~ one of the 10 most read articles of the New York Times this month, according to an e-mail I received from them, and I really don’t blame people. The pictures ALONE are TOO CUTE FOR WORDS!!!!

Super Bowl Commercials ~ Now, I’m a little late on this one, but my main reason to watch Super Bowl XL was for the commercials. There were some good ones, and some that really weren’t but this is one that made me laugh out loud. I also liked the one where they work with monkeys and jackasses. How can you go wrong with either animal in a commercial? (Probably very easily)

Speaking of the Super Bowl…

Frank the Tank’s Slant ~ My inspiration. My conscious. My Big Brother. His Blog. Where I get caught up on Illinois sports and things that I should be paying attention but don’t. I should be complimenting him like how he complimented me so generously on his blog, but he knows how great he is so I really don’t need to remind him. (You’re great by the way Frankie!)
