Linky Links 2-16-07

The links post is making a comeback. Well, for today anyway… so lets get started:

The main reason why I started a link post today:

Elvis Statue says Aloha to Hawaii (BBC News) ~ I saw this and thought of you big brother.

Art Related:

Donors Sweetened Director’s Pay at MoMA (NYTimes) ~ I want to live in NYC, rent free and work for MoMA…

Paints’ Mysteries Challenge Protectors of Modern Art (NYTimes) ~ I would hate to be a conservator for this reason… people use crazy not archival crap now a days and there would be no way to keep it from looking the way that it did when it was made.

Other Stuff:

A lost art: Romance in the age of irony (Chicago Trib)~ since Valentine’s Day just pasted and I did absolutely nothing, I agree.

Disney to Possibly Make a Pirates of The Carribean 4? (Magical Mountain) ~ HAhaha… as long as Johnny Depp is in it, I’m fine.

Dove pro-age commercial ~ So I saw this and thought it is a beautiful commercial… I just love Dove’s action on re-defining the meaning of “beauty.”

and lastly:

Walt Disney World Star Wars Weekends Announced (Magical Mountain) ~ I can’t wait. I hope I get to go this year…

Links. Great Stuff. Especially if they are all short amusing games. (Well, and the article that I found them from). Have fun!

The article:

Shorthand for a holiday: Ralphie, the BB Gun, and the Flagpole (NY Times) ~ Love Christmas Story. If you have NEVER seen it, go see it NOW.

The games:

Don’t Shoot Your Eye Out

Stuck to a Pole

Reindeer Arm Wrestling

Season Scuplting

Yes, I’m Working

Save The Snowman

Shake the Globe

And that’s all for now folks. You’ll see that there are more from this site (from OfficeMax) but I have presented you with the top ones. Enjoy!

Just one today

The Art World Is Riveted to ‘Runway’ (Seattle PI) ~ I wish I got Bravo up here at school. I am addicted to this show. I couldn’t leave my friend’s house this summer when there was a marathon on. Heck, it’s even inspired me about my work now… what am I doing now in my art? Working on dresses.

well, and here’s the show’s site ~ Bravo: Project Runway

Ah, links. I haven’t posted a link post in awhile. I guess today is newsworthy. I don’t know why it’s newsworthy, and in reality, it’s probably not… But anywho, here’s what I took note today.

Art related

A New Species of Galleries (NY Sun) ~ Just things to keep in mind if I really do want to become an artist apposed to a teacher not making my own art.

Tycoon Plans Paris Arts Complex (BBC News) ~ That’s right, the richest man in Paris wants to build a place for art… hm… maybe I need to move to Paris.

Horns Up. Bows Ready. Cellphones On. (NY Times) ~ What a cool concept. But then again, hearing a cell phone ring in the middle of a concert is somewhat annoying and this symphony is actually encouraging it (but of course at specific times).

‘Chorus Line’ Returns, as Do Regrets Over Life Stories Signed Away (NY Times) ~ I need to see this movie again. Kelly Bishop (who is Lorelai’s mother in Gilmore Girls… and was Baby’s mother in Dirty Dancing) was the story behind the character of Sheila in Chorus Line. Not like you care about my love for Gilmore Girls…

And for something sad

5 girls dead in Amish school shooting (Yahoo! News) ~ One, wow, you’re not safe anywhere. This is so sad and terrible. Two, I just went to Amish country this weekend… mmm… good food. (sorry, I guess that might have been a little inappropriate)

Howdy. Just two links today, both about the same thing – YouTube.

The first, an article about YouTube:

YouTube, MySpace abuse copyright (Yahoo! News)

And then the second link, a link to my YouTube page, still in progress of collecting:

YouTube – Broadcast Yourself ~ my personal channel, right now I only have some collections of cartoons, like Batman the Animated Series where some of the villains gather around to play cards and swap stories about how they almost got Batman. Fantastic.

And I have to give thanks out to my brother who helped me get into this whole YouTube phenomenon.

Ah, the first Linky Links post of the new school year. Now many today since I’m supposed to be unpacking. Enjoy!

Stolen Munch paintings found safe (BBC News) ~ Oh thank goodness. If you are a faithful reader… which, hm, I might have one, you know that I have posted several stories about the missing “Scream” painting. I personally like the photo of the two guys running away with the paintings.

And for something sad…

Stingray kills famed ‘Crocodile Hunter’ (Yahoo! News) ~ It’s a sad sad thing. :-( That’s all I have to say about that.

Since I fell asleep at 10:30 tonight… and then promptly woke up at 1 AM, I decided to update my blog since I haven’t been able to in awhile.  Well… alright, this isn’t going to be a big update… it’s not 3 AM and I’m getting sleepy again. Here are some links that I stumbled on while I was checking my backlog of e-mail since my connection at home is terrible.

For a New Paris Museum, Jean Nouvel Creates His Own Rules (New York Times) ~ Wow.  Another reason for me to go to Paris after I graduate.  This looks like something that you have to see in person.

Rowling to kill two in Final Book (BBC News) ~ What book is out now?  Jeez, I’m so far behind on my Potter reading that I can’t even think about the last book… I still have yet to finish the 4th book and the movie already came out!  But my summer reading right now is to read The Devil Wears Prada before I go see the movie (almost done with it, but it got soaked after I went to the pool with the kids) and tackle Pride and Prejudice, which I have sworn every summer for the past 3 summers to start and finish reading it, and have yet to.  (I’m on somewhere around chapter 22 now). Harry will just have to wait…

Aaron Spelling’s Art – The man who gave us 90210 and Models Inc.: an appreciation (Slate) ~ So sad that this man who has entertained so many has passed.  He provided me with entertainment full of drama, drama, drama… And why is 90210 or Melrose Place not on DVD yet so I can relive those years?

Captain Jack Sparrow Drops Anchor in Disney Parks’ Classic Pirates of the Caribbean Attraction (Magical Mountain) ~ Can’t wait for the movie to come out on the 7th… I’m torn though if adding Captain Jack Sparrow to the ride is a good thing.  I’ll have to ride it next time I go down there, but then again, adding an Audio-Animatronic that looks like Johnny Depp has to be a plus.  (siiiigh)

Alright, that’s it for now.  Time for bed.  If I don’t get to write again this weekend and share all about the drama about my first week of work and other things (like… still no a/c… need a whole new unit!), I hope y’all have a safe and happy 4th… go see some fireworks!

As the day is slowly coming to an end, I wanted to post a couple of art related links. I went to Whitney Biennial today and I have several words to say about it… but for some reason some of the articles I wanted to pull up are not responding and I am just still fuming over it, so I'll wait until either tomorrow or the next day for my response on the Biennial. So here are my links.

Hot Art Market Strokes Prices for Artists Barely Out of Teens ~ The article of the day! This article was actually mentioned in my class on Monday by my art critic professor. It was also originally published in Friday's issue of the Wall Street Journal. Then, of course, in typical newspaper fashion, The New York Times published this article that I posted a couple of days ago the following day. As someone mentioned in class, MFAs are getting all this publicity, which means the bottom is going to fall out soon. Great. Just Great.

Trust Your Own Reactions, Don't Seek Enlightenment ~ I really truly enjoyed this article. That's honestly all I have to say about it. Well, okay, I also agree with it and can relate.

Art Institute to Start Charging ~ NOoooooooooooooo!!!! They can't take away free Tuesdays!!! That was my day to go see the few key pieces that I have to see every time I go home to Chicago! Then again, this was actually one museum that I did pay full price ($7) when I did have to pay. Whenever I go to the MET I pay a dollar, but now I get in for free with this Museum card thing I have… but anyway, rambling…

Not much here to report so I only have one link today. It's a good one. It's not an article, so go ahead and click on it. It is, as my friend Heather who gave me the link said, my "new, FAVORITEST link." A little late since it's a couple of says past Easter, but that's okay. It's still worth looking at, especially if you like these (even if you don't, it's still amusing). Is it just me, or am I a weirdo, but for the bunny ones (which my friend Saraivy had yesterday and I was eating them) I like to eat them slowly… ear by ear… having them yelp… okay, yes, I'm a weirdo. Thank you. :-P

Question: Can anyone tell me what the eyes are made out of?

Peep Research

Have a good day y'all!

I hope you all had a nice relaxing weekend… and now time to get back to work!! Ugh. Anyway, here are the links for the day. Enjoy!

Warhols of Tomorrow Are Dealers' Quarry Today ~ Oh man. Being a MFA candidate… there are the good things and the bad things about it. Sigh.

Emerging Artists: No Room to Grow ~ Then I read this article. Sigh.

Netting the must-have art ~ Philadelphia Museum of Art, good stuff

Where did all the Munchs go? ~ He is constantly in the news! Some idiot stole his paintings, showing at the MoMA, the article above mentions how Philly's acquisition of a Munch is a positive thing (duh), now this. Too bad he's not around to pocket on this publicity.

The Call of the Jungle ~ Disney made the movie Tarzan into a music that is now on Broadway… hm… well, I guess I have to see it since I've seen the other three…

Other Stuff

Trade a paper clip for a house? ~ Submitted by Tom. Pretty cool if the guy can do it.

Animal Related

Cat saves baby's life ~ Whoohoo!!! The cat is a hero!!!

Pigs compete at their own Olympics ~ I can't decide if this is torture or amusing. There's even a video for you to watch.
